He'll Be Coming Down The Chimney Down Novels & Stories

Then, "Yes, we´ll catch up with you. If you see mine or Michael´s phones, bring them with you." BETH Charlotte dashes to the stairwell, but acrid, black smoke billows up from below. Quickly, she slams the door closed, coughing and spluttering. "No way out that way." "Down the garbage chute?" I ask. "Like they do in movies?" She gives me an old-fashioned look. "Not a chance. Too narrow, and it´s anyone´s guess what we´d land in." "I don´t mind a bit of dirt if it´s to escape a fire..."

Looking down over the open floor plan layout below we see a plum cloud of dust and black smoke. “Check up hear ill sneak downstairs” I tell her before kissing her hard and fast the push her towards the kids rooms. I hear the faint sounds of door opening down the hall followed by some whispers and I only hope all the kids are up here and not downstairs or hurt. Slinking down the stairs, sticking to the wall as I move down them I see six maybe seven tall figures in the shadowy cloud of smoke. ‘All the kids are up here’ she says through the mind-link.

He dragged me toward the open ventilation shaft. He slid down the opening first, his boots scraping against the iron rungs as he descended at a terrifying speed. I followed him, my numb fingers barely gripping the cold metal as I climbed down into the dark chimney. The air down here was already getting thinner, the lack of oxygen making my head light and my chest tight. The roar of the diesel engine below was deafening now. We reached the bottom of the ladder, dropping onto the gravel of the abandoned subway tracks. Fifty yards away, the yellow locomotive was slowly crawling forward, its wheels spinning on the rusted steel rails, throwing off massive sparks that illuminated the dark tunnel.

The stone depressed inward by a fraction of an inch. With a low, grinding rumble that sent a shower of ancient dust and pebbles from the chimney, the entire back of the hearth swung inward, revealing a yawning chasm of impenetrable blackness. A gust of air, stale and cold, smelling of damp earth and forgotten years, washed over us. I lit a small, shielded lantern. The weak flame did little to push back the oppressive dark, merely illuminating the first few steps of a steep, narrow staircase carved directly into the earth, descending into the belly of the mountain.

“This…this place is old so the chimney caps and chase covers might be bad.You might not be able to use it as it’s raining.” I looked into the chimney, there wasn’t a sign of any water dripping on it. “There’s no leakage.I think it’s fine to use while it’s raining.”I insisted. “You can’t put on the chimney.” “Why can’t I?” “Because I don’t want you to.I don’t want the chimney to be lit.” “Don’t you feel how cold it is?I just want it to warm up the room a bit.I’ll put out the fire before sleeping,”I assured.

The moment she found her mate, she would realize how silly she was for pining after him. My wolf is pacing harder now. Restless. Angry. I try to focus. I try to breathe. But the tightness in my chest won’t go away. Then— “Watch out!” someone yelled in the distance. “It’s coming down!” I look up. The chandelier is falling. And it’s aiming directly for me. “Oh shit.”

I heard him calling again, his voice sounding horrific. I looked back inside the room. It looks like a warmth room, with a fireplace, which possibly has a chimney! Lucky you Bella, I said to myself excitingly. I approached the fireplace, it hasn't been long they put the fire out. How can I squeeze myself up through it, since it's still hot. I can leave with scratches but burns? No! I heard him call again, louder this time. "Young misssss? Where are you!? Young master wants yooouuu!"

Maybe I can leave through the windows? I glance down at the ground and wince. We’re way too high for me to escape that way. Even if I used bedsheets like in the movies, there’s no way they would be long enough to reach the bottom or anywhere near it. I would break a leg! I groan and then move to the fireplace. I dare to poke my head under it to see how wide the chimney might be. Unfortunately, that will not be wide enough to fit my body. I’ll get stuck easily if I even tried.
