My heart sinks to the pit of my stomach, the image of his face lingering in my mind. It’s as though the stars have aligned, thunder cracking in the sky as I feel the promise of the rain falling hard on me. But it hardly fazes me. In fact, were it not for Bubbles’ whimper, the rain would’ve gone completely unnoticed by me. Cade..?

Maia just shook her head no. “Okay. Well, we plan to continue treatment, and once you’re well enough, you will be placed in an orphanage until you either get adopted or reach 18.” They explained, checking her fluids and everything, and then one by one, they exited the room, leaving Maia alone. But this time was different. She didn’t feel completely isolated anymore. She would never be like all the other 16-year-olds that her father told her about when he wasn’t taking all his rage out on her. She knew that. Everyone did. She’d have to carry those scars forever.

She heard Lisa mumbling something. “S-Starlight…..” “Hello? Lisa. Lisa!” Grace sighed as she looked at her hand. The call disconnected. She tried again but Lisa’s phone was switched off. Orion. She had to find him.

Chapter Thirty The room is sterilized, bathed in cold fluorescent light that is not even remotely comforting. I sit on the uncomfortable chair beside Simeon's bed; my heart still races from all the things that had taken place. My eyes stick to his small, pale face, so still beneath the white sheets. The beeping of the heart monitor keeps me attached to the fact that he is alive, that he's still breathing.

Banished to a desolate region, he perished by the roadside. As for Marcus, once a proud scholar, he reverted to his former state of idiocy, wandering the streets as a target of mockery and humiliation from all who saw him. But this time, there was no kind-hearted astral to grant him the Heart of Astral Clarity. He was about to sleep when he saw the sky lighted with a lot of stars. Every time the night sky is that clear and adorned with stars, he doesn't let that chance slip away without staring at them. He often does it in the garden. He would lay on the Bermuda grass and will happily look up and just admire it. Maybe it was the artist in him that appreciated the miracles of nature. When he peeked down, he saw that no one is in the living room. Maybe Kalyx and his parents had already gone home when he was in his room and he just not heard their car driving away.

Stars circled around a single point. Galaxies folded inward. Possibilities converged. Then suddenly— The radiance collapsed into a single sphere. Tiny. Brilliant. Floating before Lyra and Kael. The sphere pulsed gently. Like a living heart. Then it cracked. A thin line of silver light spreading across its surface. The Heart gasped. "No way." The crack widened. The sphere trembled. Another heartbeat echoed. Then another. And another. The light burst outward. For a brief moment, nobody could see.

Celeste The world outside the hospital window had turned into a circus of flashing cameras, screaming headlines, and drones that buzzed like hornets against the glass. Someone had rented the massive digital billboard across the street and turned it into a shrine of pity: my unconscious face from the night I collapsed, blown up fifty feet tall, bald and bruised, with the words PRAY FOR CELESTE HART pulsing in blood-red letters. Every time the image changed, my heart stuttered in my chest.

On those nights, he would hold little Starla in his arms, pointing at the falling stars, and say, “Starla, do you know?
