“Letters are tricky things. Words on paper can say everything you want to hear, but they also leave you with too much space to think.”
“That’s exactly it,” I said, surprised at how well he understood.
Aaron leaned back against the bench, tilting his head toward the sky. “I had an ex write me a letter once. Told me everything she wished she’d said when we were together. At first, it made me angry, like… why now? Why not when it mattered?”
“What changed?” I asked softly.
He shrugged. “I realized the words weren’t about fixing the past—they were about giving us a chance to move forward. I didn’t get back together with her, but I let go of the bitterness I’d been holding onto.”
