Deep Inside
He adjusted his uniform, wiping the sweat from his brow just as the Sergeant appeared from the far side of the camp, eyes sharp and scanning.
“Private Warner!” the older man barked. “What the hell are you doing out here?”
Henry snapped to attention, masking every trace of his sinful secret. “Finishing up, sir. Was just heading back to the barracks.”
The Sergeant studied him, suspicion flickering, before nodding slowly. “See that you do.”
Henry saluted, his heart still pounding. As the Sergeant turned away, Henry let out a long breath, tension coiled tight in his gut.
The danger was closing in.
