He was one of Emerson’s men, he kept popping up, each time in different attire. An actor with the world as his stage. “Keeping you safe, miss,” he said it in a cockney accent which I wasn’t sure was real, “Besides can’t let a lady such as yourself walk home alone, anything could have happened,”

I could feel every inch of his hard body pressed against me the same body I had tried so hard to forget. Henry’s voice dropped even lower, dangerous and rough. “You have no idea what you’ve just walked into, Silver.” His eyes flicked down to my lips for a split second before returning to my face, dark and intense. The shouting in the background had stopped. The two suited men were probably watching now, but Henry didn’t seem to care. I swallowed hard, trapped between fear and that stupid, unwanted spark of heat low in my belly. This was bad. Really bad. And the way Henry was looking at me right now… it felt like the real danger had only just begun.

It threw him back with tremendous force. Dustin’s face remained impassive. This was the inherent risk in this game. The two liquids were special in that if they expanded or contracted too quickly, an explosion would occur. Henry had intended to catch Dustin off guard, but instead, he paid the price. The force of the explosion was not fatal but not entirely harmless either. It could wound, or in a worse case, cripple someone. Henry’s men rushed forward in panic to help him up. Henry’s body was scorched, his hair was disheveled, and his clothes were in tatters.

"Many times." The revelation hit harder than expected. Because suddenly this wasn't history anymore. It wasn't theory. It wasn't research. It was personal. Henri rubbed his forehead. Tired. Exhausted. Burdened. "He never frightened me." The answer surprised her. Because every story so far suggested he should have. The old man shook his head. "That's what frightened me." Jessica frowned. Henri finally looked at her. His eyes sad. Thoughtful. Honest. "The most dangerous people rarely look dangerous."

I wasn't asking questions, Harry wasn't saying anything about his action, Lena was so quiet I almost forgot she was here and Henry's eyes slightly squinting playfully clearly showed that he was amused. There was silence in the room and it lasted for some seconds until Lena decided to say something. "Did you find the book?" She asked Henry but I caught her stealing glances at Harry and I. Henry showed her a big book with a blue hard cover. It was a text book "Yeah, I found it" Lena smiled at him. "I think we should just leave for the cafe so this lovebirds can do whatever...." "Henry" Harry called warningly without looking at him.

He takes a breath. “Thank you,” he says into the microphone. “Writing about public people is always dangerous, though usually not in the way people think. The danger is not that you will find too little. It is that you will find a symbol where a person should be, and then decide the symbol is easier to write.” The hall quiets in that soft, listening way that makes every word feel more exposed.

I was here, in what’s considered the most dangerous city in the United States. If it weren’t for Kim, there’s no way I’d go through all this trouble, traveling so far just to fetch her damn documents. Damn her scatterbrain for always forgetting important stuff and dragging me into her personal courier service. Pulling my phone out of my bag, I dialed Kim’s number. I prayed she’d pick up quickly so that the incident that I won’t tell wouldn’t happen again like last time.
