Henry was exhausted but knew his job wasn't done yet. Walking towards the defeated vampire, Henry looked at the spot where the journal had been. He felt a sinking feeling in his heart when he realized it was gone. "Oh, no." Who had dared to come steal this journal from his possession? Who?! Whoever did come, had succeeded in their plan. Henry returned to the chaos outside, worried and unrelenting. He told them what had happened, and everyone listened closely. The stolen journal wasn't just a bunch of pages—it could decide their fate and the outcome of the upcoming battle.

But Blackwood men were already pulling guns, searching for enemis in the mess. “Dad! Dad! Caleb! Uncle Sam!” I shouted again, hoping, praying, that they were still alive somewhere in this chao. The drive to Alexander’s penthouse was silent — not peaceful, but tense, heavy, wrapped in fear neither of them dared to name. Lena stared out the window as the city lights blurred past, her heartbeat an unsteady rhythm. Danger wasn’t just at work anymore. It had followed her home. Inside her home. She wasn’t safe anywhere. Alexander kept one hand on the wheel, the other gripping the console so tightly his knuckles turned white. Every red light seemed to agitate him. Every shadow made him look twice.

“Jillian,” I whispered, grabbing his wrist, “don’t go out there alone.” His hand closed gently over mine, gun in the other. “I’m not. You’re with me.” “That’s not what I—” He turned, eyes locking on mine, serious. “Christy, if anything happens, I need you to run. You know the side hallway by the library?” I nodded. “There’s a hidden passage behind the tall bookshelf. Pull the black book with the red spine. It opens a door. Go through, stay quiet, don’t stop.”

Tick tock! Tick tock! Tick tock! The sound of the wall clock could be loudly heard in the dark room illuminated with neon lights. A man tied to a chair with his mouth taped, shivered in fear—he felt rather than heard the heavy footsteps of the man approaching, signifying danger. His teeth clattered, beads of sweat formed on his forehead, his heart sinking to the pit of his stomach. Two men dressed in black with matching color of hats stood beside him, gun in their hands.

I paused by the door, pushing it close with my back and resting a palm on it. He didn’t look up to see me but I could tell he knew I was there. His eyes were trained on something in his hands, it looked like a book and it seemed to cause his shoulders to tense. The air that radiated off him was enough to cause my limbs to go numb and I was thankful I still had my palm against the door. Instinctively, the hairs at the back of my neck rose signifying impeding danger. Something was wrong. Terribly wrong.

She hurriedly goes for my belt and undoes the buttons of my pants afterward. I pull up the big hoodie she's wearing to expose more metal on her. Three daggers and a gun. They are both silver and have the same initials as her necklace. NV. I think it's time I get to know something about her. I'm so relieved that she's not some helpless girl who does not know how to take care of herself. I'm surrounded by danger and the first thing your rivals go after is the one thing you care for.
