She went to a book store and check out some reference books for pregnancy after choosing 2 books she lingered in the Fiction aisle in the book store reading synopsis of any book that caught her interest. She checked her watch and it was 10 minutes before 4, hurriedly she went to pay her book in the cashier.

I got lost in her words. The cadence of violence dressed as poetry. Obsession framed as devotion. For forty-five minutes, I forgot about everything else. When the reading ended, people began lining up for signings. I started to stand, but Lucien's hand landed on my knee.

While I was doing my routine inspection, I stopped and pulled a book from one of the shelves in the romance section and cracked it open. The smell of old paper calmed me and I closed my eyes for just a moment so I could enjoy it. I could tell that today was going to be a good day. I read a line on a random page and allowed myself to enjoy a moment to myself. HENRY TOOK MARGARET INTO HIS ARMS AND HELD HER CLOSE TO HIS CHEST, SO THAT THEIR BREATH BECAME ONE. Yet, her eyes were fixed on Brandon the whole time. As if I were an inflatable punching bag, I got knocked down by her over and over again, only to spring back in the end. Blood was everywhere, and breathing itself became a painful ordeal. And yet, what kept replaying in my mind was her straddling me and swaying happily as she said, "Honey, we should have a daughter first. He set the book down carefully at the edge of the desk where he'd found it. He stood up. His face was still doing the thing — not all the way back, not yet.
