ELIJAH’S POV I was having a race with my Beta in the woods when my mum mindlinked me to report to her chambered immediately. When I asked her what was wrong, she refused to say anything and immediately blocked the mindlink. I had to leave my beta and head over to her chambers to see what was wrong. When I get to her bedroom door, I knock three times at the at it and moments later, the door is opened by my very pissed off looking mother. Why is she frowning so early in the morning?

Drax, made from wild fungi and ethanol, was banned within the city limits but could be legally purchased and consumed in the Drock. Mother’s message was particularly relevant today, as my age now permitted me entry. Her second message was not to take unnecessary risks on the ice peaks I planned to climb, a message she knew I always ignored. The third was one I had received continually since my early childhood: “Skye, do not, under any circumstances, exercise your powers and bring attention to yourself.” I had asked why many times, only to receive the same answer. “Because I forbid it.” Or, as I grew older, “Because we have a special ability that can be dangerous and must be concealed.”

And her dark hair only confirming that she couldn’t possibly be natural. The elves were said to have the palest eyes, a deep and beautiful blue or green; not amber. And of course, the ears were different from mortals. But Astria was an anomaly, neither a Deus nor an Elf, she was an outsider a half-breed monster that others argue should have been destroyed at birth. But her mother had saved her, given her life when all others would have forsaken her. And yet now, they had to run to hold onto that gift, forced to hide and mask who she was.

Depending on how you look at it, there are no good guys here. The Elf King's tent stands where it always has, on the Eastern end of the courtyard, but now has large spaces around it where other exhibits have vacated, giving a sense of privacy that previously didn't exist. I didn't go in with Carnelia last time, she was by herself while I dealt with Orion. I wish I had been by her side, however. Then I might have known what to expect. An Elf Mage, one of their powerful Scientist-Priests, greeted me at the tent flap. His skin glowed with the same bright blue hue as the cloth of the tent and the bright pin-prick lights which I can now see are a special variety of Starflower jasmine.

The elves and fairies, together at last, stood in all their shining glory. Led by Ithel and Zoltan, the elves stood in perfect straight lines in their resplendent armor. If nothing else, their shining helmets would blind the enemy. Silently, the agile creatures awaited orders while staring ever forward. They were the picture of military prowess. Their golden skin against their steel armor made them looked like a shining sea of metal.

Prepared like a sacrifice on an altar for a woman who had slit my throat and stolen him from his castle. Cain's hand closed on my shoulder, firm. “Wait.” I didn't wait. I rounded the corner at a dead sprint. The tunnel opened into a small antechamber, a carved-out pocket in the stone where two figures stood beside a table covered in vials, oils, and silk cloths. One was tall, angular, skin the pale blue-gray of deep stone, pointed ears protruding from ink-black hair. A dark elf. Her eyes, solid silver with no iris, widened as I came barreling out of the darkness.

Three armoured Dark Elves, patrolling the streets, paused, and turned back to intercept me. Young Elves in fresh armour, still shiny and unmarred by battle, on patrol because of their freshness. Their hair was braided back on the sides, forming the centre into a mohawk, and they wore the half face helms strapped over, shielding their eyes, and providing a nasal guard. The tips of their ears were capped with elaborately worked earrings. “Fae mage,” one of them said, evaluating me. “That I am,” I agreed. “What are you doing in Nerith?” There was no hostility in the tone, she was simply performing her duty in enquiring.

The air at the peak of Mount Celestia was thin and biting, but neither Seraphina nor Ryan felt the chill. They stood at the absolute zenith of the realms, a place where the barrier between the mortal world and the infinite cosmos was as thin as a translucent veil. Below them, stretched out like an endless tapestry of twinkling stars, lay the unified realms—Eldoria, the Sun-Drenched Plains, the deep mountain holds of the dwarves, and the whispering elven groves.

She tried not to sound so harsh, “They’re just bastards who like to play with humans’ lives.” Zed didn’t say anything back, but he also understood Sierra’s words. Then, he went to Gray, probably asking the same thing about the kid’s god. For an old elf, Zed was really odd. As the army reached the north border once again, the elves were chanting their spells that apparently could neutralize the Earth True Blessing. With their help, the army didn’t find any difficulties and they marched forward for days until they finally reached Kingdom of Bealaris.
