"Let go of me right now!"
She jerked her hand violently, wrenching free from his grip with considerable effort, and moved straight back to Caleb's side as if drawn there by instinct and necessity. Without hesitation, she reached for Caleb's arm, grounding herself in his solid, reassuring presence.
"Caleb, let's go," she said firmly, her voice steady on the surface but shaking underneath with residual emotion.
Before they could take more than a single step forward, Nathan lunged again with desperate speed and caught her hand once more, his fingers curling tightly, almost desperately around her slender wrist as if afraid she might disappear forever if he let go even for a second.
