Together, the two huddled on the couch, fingers dancing over the smartphone's screen, which was displaying WebSphere. Holden watched the tender scene unfold before him, a sense of warmth blooming in his chest. His father, it seemed, was finally getting on board with the latest trends. Aaron didn't give them much of a choice when he decided to take Adam's Alpha title. After getting the rest of my armour on, I quickly made my way to the elevator door. I was ready to shift into my wolf if I had to, but I couldn't outrun an army of silver bullets. I had to tread carefully now. We were outnumbered and shifting will put a large target on my back if we are overrun. I caught view of Holden still in his hospital gown entering the elevator. He was holding the door open for me. "Well, what are you waiting for? She's down there. All of them are. Can't you smell the blood?"

He had a jean jacket on, a white cotton shirt, and some blue jeans that didn't clash with his look. "Jossie? I didn't know you were here. Where's your truck?" He glanced around for it and then realized what I was holding in my hands. "Oh wow~" He smiled huge as he snatched the hat from me. "You're really working at Tolen's?" He looked in disbelief at the logo. I felt slightly embarrassed. I refused to look him in the eye this time. What will he do if he finds out I'm staying in a hotel right now? He's so cute... how can I admit that to him?

I was thankful I had put my gloves on, I was not interested in reading his thoughts. In fact, I wasn't really interested in reading anyone’s thoughts. I rarely took my gloves off, except when hunting. I found that hearing thoughts while hunting was very beneficial, but any other time it was more of a nuisance. “And what brings you to the beautiful state of Pennsylvania?” Xavier purred.

Once the flask I’d procured from Farrow was in my grip, I released a shuddered breath. It might’ve been a sentimental artifact to the Bastard Betrayer turned Prince Consort, but it was priceless to me. Smoothing my thumb over the crest inscribed on the front, a nostalgic ache tore through my lungs. Holden had created this house crest when he was only twelve. I’d taken him and his two sisters out into the forest to play that day, where he’d found some berries and began to doodle on a large rock, staining the flat surface with the purple juices to draw pictures. When he’d finished and stepped back with a proud smile, I knew that sign would forever be his insignia.

I walked into the kitchen and looked around. I should have borrowed one of Claire's cookbooks. I didn't have the slightest idea of what to do. Holden perched himself up on a stool by the island. He had his iPad with him and he was wearing his glasses again. He was dressed in grey sweats and he looked, dare I say 'cute'. His facial hair was growing out and I was finding it hard to tear my eyes away from admiring every detail about him. Why did he have to be so good-looking.

Holden gestured me to follow him as he marched towards the shooting area, which forced me to wonder confusingly as to why he wished to train me in shooting, but, as it was a known and clearly understood fact that he was a highly knowledgeable and shrewd man, I realized his main motive behind leading me there, which initially seemed beyond my comprehension. At the shooting area, he made me wear the shooting range ear muffs which appeared similar to headsets, but for ear protection. Now, as any ordinary person applied his thinking, I moved to the table and lifted the handgun, aiming it at the mannequin in its direction. But before I could muster the courage to press the trigger, Holden snatche
