Susan's voice sounded delicate and pitiful, as if she were a helpless little girl seeking help. She played the part of a damsel-in-distress perfectly. Victor heard all of this. He looked into the apartment through the fourth-floor balcony. He didn't see the fat guy Stanley mentioned, but he did see a mechanical cat that was one and a half meters tall. The mechanical cat had clearly heard Susan's knocking. When it heard Susan's voice, it paused for a moment before baring its sharp, shiny fangs. Then, the mechanical cat leaped forward, pouncing at the sturdy security door.

"Chase, come home. As long as you apologize properly, Zoey will forgive you. Don't fake something like this again." My fingers tightened around my phone. But after a moment, I said nothing and submitted the withdrawal. Peanut, the stray cat I'd taken in, seemed to sense something was off with me and kept rubbing against my feet. I crouched down to pat his head, then poured the last of the cat food into his bowl, filling it to the brim. He immediately limped over and started eating. He was a disabled cat with a badly broken leg. As he ate, he kept glancing back at me.

He came home from work yelling "honey I'm home" as a joke. He lived alone with his pet cat. The apartment was small, just two rooms and a basement that he never used. The previous tenant had been a hoarder, and though the landlord had cleaned most of it, the basement still smelled of rot and old newspapers. Leo kept the door locked. He never went down there. He had his cat, Whiskers, a fat orange tabby that slept on his chest and purred him to sleep every night. That was all the company he needed.

I couldn't resist, so I scooped it into my arms. Both it and I were bereft of a home. It nuzzled its velvety fur against my face. "Sorry, I can't do it. Zoey dislikes cats. I can't bring you home for now. Will you wait for me? I'll relocate soon, and then I can bring you home."

In the end, Jack decided against it after thinking it was too sleazy. After sending Jessie off to Stewart Tech, and since they'd already agreed to go to a beauty salon that afternoon, Jack went home first to check on their cats. As soon as he stepped into the yard, the cats ran up to him. Jack scooped up the gray cat in front and tapped its nose. "Your mom feels guilty for stealing me away. She made me promise to come home every day and check on you guys."

“I didn’t know you owned pets.” “The last time I was home, Catapult decided to own me. The scrawny stray launched herself at my head as I stepped off my front porch. Looked like she went head-to-head with a puma. Poor thing lost an eye.” Lizzy smiled. “Girl knew what she was doing, throwing herself at you…” “Why do you think I called her Catapult? I’ll introduce you to the gang later. First, you’ll need to rest.”

School holidays were when Catherine felt absolutely grateful because after her thesis works, she finally gets to attend to the mystery she’s been wanting to solve for years now. Finally, she’s got her hand on the flash drive that contained the CCTV footage, and she reached Tacky’s apartment door. She knocked in a special pattern for Tacky to know that it was her. After a few seconds, the knob of the door twisted and Tacky welcomed Catherine with a smile. “So,did you have it?”

The adults in the room looked at him confusedly. “He’s like a devil to his enemies. See, he likes to play in the forest and comes back with a chunk of fire slime flesh, or the leg of a bird, or a dead fish. He makes my friend very surprised that she thought her heart stopped. If you know cat’s habits, this is a sign of love from them. They give you these dead animals, or chunks of it, that they had proudly hunted, for you. Cats cannot make gifts like humans do, those are their ‘gifts’. It’s not to make fun of us, that’s just the only thing they could think of to gift us. Because that’s their custom, animal custom.” Jai explained.
