I darted my eyes away quickly-- "You promised," Al said all of a sudden. "What?" I paused in surprise. "No question asked," Al smirked, holding out his hand to me. I was grateful that he didn't ask into it. Night fell. So the thing about horror stories is that-- The fear kicks in only at dark nights when you are alone, not when you are at the crowded theater or on the bright street. Meaning-- I couldn't fall asleep that night. Turns out it's a bit hard to fall asleep when you don't close your eyes because you feel the need to stare at everything with alert.

It was late autumn when they arrived — the trees skeletal, the air thick with a kind of oppressive stillness that seemed to hum beneath the surface of the world. Emily Carter, a graduate student in folklore and urban legends, had heard the whispers about WildWood all her life. She had grown up just a few towns over and had spent years gathering the old stories: tales of the “vanishing patients,” the “howling trees,” and the “night doctors” said to stalk the forest paths. “About the swamp being haunted?” I nod. When she stepped out of the bathroom, the sensor-activated lights in the corridor toggled on and off without reason, which made her feel rather nervous. In the past when they were living in the dormitory, Hazel always told ghost stories of Northtide College. The one that went around the most often was… the one about the ghost of the female teacher clothed in red who would show up at midnight inside the office building. It went as far back as twenty years ago. Back then, she had always thought of it as nothing more than a joke, but now... while she was in the middle of the corridor at midnight… Suddenly, she could hear Hazel’s ghostly whisper when she was telling the story.
