Slowly… slowly… Until it stood right above her head. Anusha froze with fear. She turned her head slightly— There was no one in the room. But on the wall… the shadow stood. And then— The shadow’s head moved close to her ear and whispered— “I have come…” Her eyes widened. The next second, the lamp went out. The room plunged into darkness. And someone grabbed her shoulder— Cold… icy… not human at all. Anusha screamed and fainted. When she woke up in the morning, the guest house was normal.

When my fingers are close enough, I brush them down her cheek. "So young. So naive. My dear little mouse, they talked about how big of a monster I am. They made it sound as if all werewolves are just as horrid. The humans are afraid...and what do humans do when they are afraid? They kill, my sweet pet. They kill. Even though we have been living side by side for thousands of years...that won't matter because they are scared," I say softly, and my little mouse actually blushes due to my touch.

I narrowed my eyes, trying to decipher the ancient, jagged writing that surrounded the drawing: "When the Moon bleeds, and the shadows grow long, the heart that beats no more shall find its beat. From the ashes of the ancient burial grounds, the Cold Ones shall arise. They are the hunger that never sleeps, the thirst that cannot be slaked. When the Blood Moon crowns the sky, the Undead shall claim the throne of the living, and the world shall drown in the red of their feast." Devon yawned tiredly behind me, stretching out on the bed. "Jimmie... will you put the book away and come to bed? Please? Come on, babe..."

she cocked her brow, her tone matter of fact. “Obviously not, but there has to be a middle ground between bed rest and insanity.” “There isn’t. That’s why bed rest sucks.” She settled into the chair beside the bed. “Want me to read to you? I came back in the library to get the book, I brought it to my room to read it again even though I'm not sure if it's still blank but I'm hoping to find out more about it and to know how to unlock every pages of it, I think there's a secret word, button or something in it. And to my surprise the first page already has it's content but it's different now from the last thing that I've read, hell! How can it possibly do that? I tried reading it and it says that i can read the whole content in the night of a blood moon which is my birthday. And there are only few creatures that can read it, a destined creature needs to have a hold of this book.

There was no electronic version to be found online. Most people's curiosity stopped there, but a few were determined to dig up the book's content. They were curious to know what could possibly make a lazy middle-aged man so absorbed in reading. Conveniently, the book was available for purchase online, so they eagerly placed their orders. I hoped the walls were soundproof, as I didn’t want to overhear any funny business between Silas and his girlfriend. Climbing onto my bed, I reached for my bedside drawer, pulling out a large book with thick pages and a brown cover. It was a book on vampire origins, and basically everything one needed to know about them. Bill had gifted it to my mom as a moving-in present, thinking she might need it living with two vampires under the same roof. If only he knew Mom didn’t read books. Even when I was a kid, she’d make up my bedtime stories on the spot. She found it funny to tell me horror stories before bed.
