Dominic turned to me fully now; both hands on my arms, scanning my face, my eyes, my breathing.
“What did you see?” he asked quietly.
“Nothing clear,” I whispered. “But something tried to open.”
“Memory?”
“I think so.”
He didn’t like that answer, but he accepted it.
My tablet chimed.
External mirror, destroyed.
Archive Black, safe.
Threat, contained.
But the cost wasn’t zero.
I looked down at the black card on the floor between us.
Paused, not buried.
Dominic followed my gaze, then crushed the card under his heel without reading it.
