The Hybrid
A guttural sound tears out of my throat, a roar that shakes the forest to its very core, something ancient, something very wrong.
Even the shadows recoil as all instinct in me sharpens to a lethal edge.
I crouch low, my stance looking everything like the real predator I am. I slam my palms onto the forest floor, my fingers threading through the earth. This way, I can feel the disturbance in the earth; her scent is not the only way to track her. Above the noise, I hear the urgent beat of paws hitting the ground, twigs breaking— a familiar gasp.
