burn between us

burn between us

Monday came with the specific quality of a beginning that had been earned. Elian was at his desk at 6:43 AM, which was four minutes earlier than usual, which told Dante — passing the study doorway with his coffee — that the novel was pulling him forward rather than requiring him to push toward it. The difference was audible. When Elian had to push, his writing-voice was lower, more interrogative. When the material was pulling, the voice had a different cadence — faster, more certain, occasionally stopping mid-sentence not from difficulty but from the need to catch up with what was happening on the page.

The Blood Opera

The Blood Opera

When I opened my mouth, the first note slipped out like a confession pulled from my chest. My voice filled the space in a way I had never felt before. It was as if the opera reached out, caught the sound, magnified it, and sent it back to me. The old river-song swelled, a melody of longing and danger, of a maiden who lured men to their doom with a voice sweet enough to hide the claws beneath. Halfway through the second verse, a ripple passed through the air. A presence. Cold. Electric. My breath caught. I did not see him at first. I only felt him, like a draft slipping beneath a door or a gaze gliding across bare skin.

A Life Without Gratitude

A Life Without Gratitude

I stop tracking the words. I track instead the sound of his voice — the specific frequency of it, low and steady, the voice he uses when he has decided that what the moment needs is not cleverness or precision but simple, unhurried presence. The lamp on the counter. His hand at the back of my head, moving slowly.

The Bait, The Ruin

The Bait, The Ruin

The voice cracks through the room, but it sounds like a distant cry for help by someone stranded in a desert. “Congratulations. You passed the most important test.” Another voice follows. A woman, I think. It’s hard to tell. The voice changers turn their voices unrecognizable. But I listen as always. Even now, my mind works beneath the surface, picking apart tones, pauses, slips. I’ve spent too long surviving in places like this not to notice the small things. The way someone breathes before they speak. The way their shoulders shift. The rhythm of control in their voices.

The Mafia Don's Innocent Love

The Mafia Don's Innocent Love

In that seemingly small gesture, a tide of emotions surge through me, instilling it with deepest meaning. "Please," I pleaded, the words escaping my lips like an intense prayer. My voice carried the weight of longing and desperation. "Angel, I beg you. Let me hear your voice again. I want to hear your melodic tones, to feel your presence through your words. Just one single sound..." My voice faltered, the intensity of my emotions almost overwhelming me. Summoning a deep breath, I steadied myself and continued, "...to make sure you understand what I'm saying, that you notice my existence."

Omega Rebellion: Shadows Of Power

Omega Rebellion: Shadows Of Power

His voice moved across the torn clearing like sound moves through water — not fast and not loud but reaching everything regardless, filling the available space without effort and arriving at the edges of the field with the same weight it had carried at the center, which was the quality of a voice that has been used to making itself heard across distances that required it to carry something beyond volume. I stepped forward before any wolf behind me could shape a response that would have told him something about us, and my stepping forward was itself the response, the only one the moment could use. "I am enough," I said, and I put into the four words exactly what they needed to carry and nothi

Alpha's Pet

Alpha's Pet

I close my eyes and when the darkness comes, it isn’t as empty, isn’t as filled with terrible things, as it normally is. *** My ears vibrate as the ticklish and yet painful feeling on my skull continues to stretch to the top, meeting in the middle. The constant feeling of it isn’t quite translating to a sound, but it’s consuming all of my attention until the voice cuts through it. “Just… a… little… peek.” That voice. His voice. If I was melt-able, I’d be liquid. Hot, steaming, liquid. It’s rough in the right ways, vibrating as he speaks like the pressure mounting in my ears.

******beware***** There's a cliffhanger at the end and no update anywhere on when or where book two will be out. The last update on anything from the author was over a year ago. They literally might as well have just stopped in the middle of the book.
