Inaresto siya ng mga pulis at ikinulong nang walang matibay na ebidensya laban sa kanya. Umatras ang kanyang abogado sa paghawak ng kanyang kaso dahil ayaw niyang magsalita at ipagtanggol ang sarili. Ayaw niyang sabihin ang totoo na ang kanyang Tiya Gilda ang pumatay sa asawa nito. Wala na siyang makuhang libreng abogado kaya naman napilitan siyang humingi ng tulong sa pamilyang minsan na ring kumupkop sa kanya bago siya napunta sa poder ng kanyang tiyahin, at iyon ay ang mga Avery. Noong una, ayaw itong tanggapin ni Justin, dahil hindi ito humahawak ng kaso ng mga kriminal. Ang katwiran niya, bakit nya ipagtatanggol ang mga taong nagkasala? Ang nararapat sa mga ito ay maparusahan. Pero sa kalaunan ay tinanggap niya rin ito, ngunit bago pa man ang lahat ay nagkasundo sila na babayaran niya ito sa paraang gusto ng binatang abogado, at pumayag naman siya. Iyon pala, gusto lang nitong turuan ng leksyon ang babaeng nang-iwan dito. Ang babaeng pinagselosan niya kaya siya lumayas sa bahay ng pamilya Avery. Sa pagitan ng hustisya at pag-ibig, sino ang tunay na huhusgahan? Ang nagkasala, o ang nagmahal?

What inspired you to write One Promise? You see, when I was young, life was tough. I grew up with a broken family. I never felt the love I wanted all my life. I've always love reading. That's when I found my new comfort through writing. Then I held on to it because it gave me hope. It gave me another way to ease my broken self cause I needed to. Just when I thought I already hit rock bottom with all these pain I felt ever since I was a kid, God must've still felt the need to push me more by leaving me with a monstrous dad but I saw how God changes him. So I wrote this story for my dad.

Now that her mother is no longer around to interfere, she becomes inspired to reunite with him after many years and hopefully write the third novel based on their new story. Unfortunately, he is now about to get married in two months. Disappointed with the turn of events, she decides not to meet him again. She visits their old meeting place and finds it a good place to write but unexpectedly meets him there. They agree not to talk to each other if they meet there again but fate leads them to meet again under different circumstances leaving them no choice but to speak to each other. Suddenly, Nate’s fiancée starts acting weird and suggests that he spend the weekend with Cela while she is away. Although it confuses him, he figures that it is her way of helping him get closure. The two spend one Sunday reminiscing the past expecting a closure in the end but the wonderful moment they share this time only makes it harder to achieve that closure so Cela has to put a stop to it saying, “Please don't think even for a second that there is still something left or something new to explore after everything that happened or did not happen. This is not a novel. This is reality. We don't get sequels or spin-offs in real life. We just continue. We move forward and that's how we get to the ending."
