The watchers gasp in horror. “They found the lower breach.” Dylan pulls me violently against him as one of the new creatures lunges forward. Its eyes burn crimson. Its teeth are bared. And this one— Is not waiting for permission.

Floodlights swung toward the breach. Zorak’s voice slid through the gap, amplified by the night. “Little heir,” he said, tone almost amused. “You brought the party to your own door.” Then the creatures came. They moved on four legs like wolves. Their fur crawled with pale veins of moonlight, eyes burning sickly green. Their auras stank of Zorak’s power—half-pack, half-void. Some had twisted horns, some too-long claws that left glowing lines in the dirt.

I repeated. The creature snarled violently. “Silence.” The First Heir laughed bitterly. “There it is.” Her silver eyes locked onto mine. “The truth they buried.” The chamber trembled again.
