The golden manes were now shredded and in place stood a furless pale creature with red eyes and jagged teeth. Crawlers? That is what they reminded me of, A more animalistic version of Orion’s Crawlers. The creatures attempted to growl at me but instead of something deep and menacing, it was a screech that sent a shiver down my spine, piercing every single nerve ending and shaking my very core.

As soon as we walk into the restaurant, I hear Citra, Jaiden, and Hawk deep in conversation with Bella, who’s back at the medic site. “Why are all these creatures circling the warehouse? She did not reply, concentrating on not getting the Ute bogged, and breathed out a sigh of relief as they hit solid ground. “It’s a creature from…” She started to explain but realized that he probably did not have a concept of TV or movies either. “A human made-up creature,” she fumbled her explanation. “Of a dead person who continues to walk around and needs to eat the brains of living people in order to survive.” “Is that what the creature sought today?” Niarthen wondered solemnly. “Our brains?”

Amara and I snap our heads to Haley and gasp with shock when we see that three horrifying creatures are surrounding a terrified Haley. “Haley!” Amara screams as she rushes towards the creatures. These creatures are bigger than the ones I had seen before. Yet, I know that they’re my father’s experiments based on their hodgepodge appearance. These creatures have the bodies of what looks like gorillas, bald heads resembling a pitbull’s head, and piranha teeth. Their legs are curved like the legs of a goat. But unlike goats, they have clawed feet. Rushing forward, Amara and I reach for Haley, but before we can, one of the creatures grips her by the neck while the other creatures ready to attack.

“What is it? What did we wake?” I turned, slowly — every nerve on fire. My breath caught. There was something in the mist. Tall. Twisted. Moving on legs that weren’t quite legs. It looked like the memory of a god, stretched and hollowed into a creature built for ruin. And there wasn’t just one. Dozens stepped from the trees. They weren’t alive. Not in the way you’d think. These were Eaters. Fragments of the broken world that had bled through the veil — monsters that fed on power, on magic, on hope.

I held my breath partially to deal with the smell and also because I had some dumb idea if they didn’t hear me breathing they wouldn’t attack. The others didn’t share this dumb idea. “What are they?” Posy breathed. “Serpenbites.” Oz whispered. “Mutated creatures that feast on...human flesh.” “You think we can take them?” Hunter gulped. “Only one way to find out, babe.” I whispered. “On my count.” Cedric transformed before I could even start counting. The others took that as a cue for them to shift into their creature forms too. I was feeling insanely under prepared for this fight. I glanced at Posy who seemed to feel the same way. A Wanix and an Inrith could handle these Serpenbites, right?

She was so weak and had to calculate with her head how long they had flown. Their appearances scared her. What type of beasts were these? Where did they come from? They didn't even look the closest to humans to all. They looked like all these creatures created by movie makers in thriller action movies - only if they knew that these creatures they used CGI to create were real. As the creatures slowly approached her, she crawled backward in a weak state. "We are going to kill you first and then eat you, you look yummy." One of them said. His voice was ugly to listen and if he had to sing, Jane was sure that the dead would rise to stone him to death.
