Chapter 13 Set Fire and Burn by Ruth Nalio Angelica… Darkness surrounded me and the screaming of the wind filled my ears. The ground shook beneath my feet, cracking with each step I took. My flaming fingertips trailed along the walls of the building next to me, catching it on fire with ease. Inside, I was filled with more pain and anger than humanly possible. Terror woke me from my nightmare, and I sat up screaming. Looking down at myself, I jumped out of the bed as I realized I was on fire. “Fuck! No!” I shook my hands, as if I could shake out the fire.

But this? This wasn't a birth. It was an awakening of a hunger so ancient, so primal, that the very air in the "Project Genesis" dome seemed to curdled into ash.

She didn’t even know which one. Her teeth hit skin. not gentle. Instinct. Hunger. The pressure in her mouth snapped. Sharp. Sudden. Lena sucked in a breath as something shifted along her gums. not just pain anymore. Something… pointed. Her tongue brushed it by accident… and froze. Too sharp. Her stomach dropped. That wasn’t normal. That wasn’t… The thought didn’t finish. Because the hunger surged and everything else disappeared. The first taste hit…and the world broke. Vance sucked in a sharp breath.
