a mercenary growled, kneeling on my chest and pressing his knee down hard against my sternum. I struggled beneath his weight, trying to twist my body, but I couldn't get leverage with my hands locked behind me. I glared up at him, breathing heavily, mud and cold water dripping down my chin. He reached down to his tactical belt, pulling a pneumatic injector from its pouch. He primed the seal with a loud click, then pressed the nozzle against the side of my neck, right next to my scent gland. "No—" I choked out. He squeezed the trigger.

I am filled with a sense of purpose and such vitality as I continue to weave through the forest, the thudding sound of our hoofs against the forest ground like music to my ears. Suddenly, I sense it—the presence of a prey close by. And then, the hunger tears through me again, causing me to race harder, the incessant need to feed overcoming all sense of caution and logic. Soon enough, our prey comes into sight—a large deer with ears perked to catch the slightest sign of movement. “We have to be discreet, or else we lose him.” Veronica cautions through telepathy, and I give a nod in answer. We approach the deer stealthily, avoiding the leaves we know will crunch beneath our hoofs. When we are

How fast could he be going? Through a small window pane, I see dark armed figures outside, noiselessly rounding this part of the building. This is a calculated attack. They are here for someone, or some people—they shot at our table first. Jules now slumps lifeless, it had to be a sniper. Maybe it's Jasper Grant next, or even both of us. I need to find Jasper Grant, he's the key to escaping this. And the windows, I must keep off the windows; the sniper's still out there.

The primal instincts surged within him, guiding him through the underbrush as he focused on the sounds of the forest. Hudson's senses heightened as he caught the scent of a deer nearby. He paused, listening intently, then crept closer, his muscles coiling like a spring. With a burst of speed, he charged. After a swift and skilled hunt, he managed to bring down a deer, feeling the satisfaction of a successful chase. Hudson bit the deer's neck in his mouth, savoring the thrill of the hunt. He began walking back to Selena, eager to see his mate's reaction.

The forest embraced them like an old friend. And then, Ryder spotted his prey. A majestic deer stood gracefully among the trees, unaware of their presence. His pulse quickened as he felt the surge of primal instinct, a connection to his ancestors. With his father and brother watching, Ryder took a deep breath, steadying his nerves. He summoned all his training, his energy focusing on the moment. And then, with a burst of speed and agility, he lunged forward, his hands and fingernails sinking into the deer's neck.

When I am positive my prey is alone, I cut around half a mile to be on the correct side of the wind before approaching. When I get the Hinglee into view, I grin. It's a male. Probably father to the offspring I saw with its mother. His tusks are long, indicating he is well past five years old, and his body is thick. His genes have surely been passed on, and he has served his purpose. I feel no guilt in trying to kill him. My senses heighten as the excitement for fresh blood builds. I flex my fingers around the hilt of my weapon while creeping toward his unknowing figure. My steps are silent, and I make it within three yards of him before lunging.

The hunters, those shadowy figures who had shattered her world, were an insatiable hunger that gnawed at the edges of her peace, their pursuit a relentless tide that threatened to drown her. They were a hydra, she often thought, a monstrous entity with a thousand heads, each one driven by a different vice or delusion, yet all united by a single, burning purpose: to find her. Some were mere mercenaries, their souls as tarnished as the coins they craved, their loyalty bought and sold with brutal efficiency. They moved through the forests with a practiced disregard for the natural world, their heavy boots crushing ancient ferns, their careless fires scarring the earth. They were predictable in

For that, I need to be silent and pretend to be weak in front of these people. This is a good idea, but if you didn't find the killer what would you do? In that attempt, if he misses the target Then he will make sure to kill it on the next attempt and he will make good tactics and he waits for the next time.

What a malevolent spell they conjured to ascertain my demise. A dry huff lifts from my lips as my shaky hands grip a strong branch while I laboriously hone my vision through this unnatural haze obstructing my sight to see the figure by the window. For the nights I’ve watched her, all that churned in my guts was a mouth-watering craving. The mere fascination of what this weak Hunter would taste like against my insatiable appetite. An edible and sumptuous prey I stumbled upon on my numerous reckless hunts in the vast wood that demarcates our territories.

Especially if the omega wore that yellow band. Within five minutes, the forest was filled with muted screams as the first of the prey were being caught. Over 3,000 omegas had started in this year's hunt. Based on the new rules, every omega in the Hunt had a corresponding hunter searching for her, waiting to drag her off to a new life in a new tribe. To catch and claim your mate, you had to mark her. That meant biting her neck in possession. The combination of a bite, along with the adrenaline and endorphins of the chase meant most prey passed out from the overload to their system. The hunter had to then carry their prey back to the castle before it was official. Almost all of the hunters dra
