Chasing fireflies
The pain felt like it was splitting his skull open.
Caroline’s chanting grew louder, more insistent. Hunter let out a strangled scream before collapsing unconscious.
She laughed, wild and unhinged. “It’s over. You’ll never find her,” Caroline said, turning on her heel and disappearing into the shadows.
When Hunter came to, his head still throbbed. He shook it, trying to clear the fog, and glanced around, disoriented. Why was he even here? Without wasting another second, he bolted through the forest, the decision crystal clear in his mind. He was done, done with being an alpha, done with the pack. It would break his father’s heart, but he didn’t care. He was leaving, focusing on his company.
