Forever: for all future time; for always. Sophia’s POV It has been two months since I got discharged from the hospital. Xavier’s arrest came as a relief to me and I was glad that Henry was back to being in charge of the New York’s project. As I had predicted, Xavier tried implicating Hunter but Henry was quick to inform the police of the boy’s innocence in the whole matter. Hunter had still forbidden me from going back to Ontario even if it was to see Maj. He didn’t let me even communicate with her.

Except that I thought it wrong. “I’ll be leaving now.” Hunter suddenly announces and before I could even say anything, he has stormed off from my study room. I watch the entrance left ajar after he left and I cannot help but be surprised that he still hasn’t come to an agreement. What is with him though? I have no idea why he is in a rush to get this done. I really don’t. “Can I leave?” Ryu asks and without looking at him, I nod. The next thing I hear is the retreating footsteps of my pack warrior, leaving me alone to ponder on my beta’s overreaction.

He was quite lucky I was being nice to fuck a mean thing to his fucking face. “Stop the fucking tears, Hunter. Christ, you are making me sick to the core. Atlas is gone… and now I’m leaving again. Besides, I have an engagement to attend, a wind-down for myself…” Hunter froze, paused in place, paying rapt attention to me now.

Just as he rarely smiles at me. ‘What time?’ I question. ‘Erm... Se.. no, eight, I believe. Have to say, I am not happy they are messing with my plans, but we do what we need to keep this act up. At least soon enough Ezra will be fucking off and we get our lives back.’ Hunter’s words took me by surprise, since his brother’s arrival he was struggling with not going out as often, either going out during the day or sneaking out later at night when we were all asleep. But what surprised me was that Ezra may be leaving soon.

"Can you tell me why Xavier had to change colleges? You mentioned it that day…I remember. But you never told me the reason." The shift in Hunter's face was small but it was there. Something behind his eyes became heavier. He was quiet for a moment, long enough that I almost told him he didn't have to answer. But then he exhaled, a long and careful breath, and ran a hand over his jaw. "I knew I was going to have to say this eventually," he said. "I just didn't think it would be this soon." My stomach tightened. "Tell me. Whatever it is. I need to know."

Hunter stated coldly. Everyone nodded their heads in agreement. There we no trace of emotion in their faces – as if they were all ready for battle. “Crystal clear.” All the betas replied icily. Then, Hunter immediately dismissed them – giving them three minutes before leaving the pack. He was hoping that they could find Hector. Besides, their betas were the best of the best. Hector, on the other hand, knew that he was just there. Perhaps, there might be some circumstances that made him be more discreet and alert – causing him not to communicate with anyone.

I will never see Hunter again. Everyone shows up at the garage a few minutes later. Savage is the only one absent due to him being on his honeymoon. Reaper, Outlaw, and Connor were shocked by the news of Hunter’s death. It was a wretched moment for all of us to realize that we’ve lost one of our own. “I can’t believe it.” Outlaw mutters dejectedly. Reaper shakes his head, his lips clenched tightly as he looks around angrily. “We have to get these assholes and put them down once and for all.”

Everything looked dull and silent, as if the world itself was mourning. I slowly finished tying the black ribbon around my wrist. Today was Amber’s funeral. After today… everything would change. I had already made up my mind about one thing. Once the funeral was over, I would leave the pack for a while. Hunter needed to find his memories. He deserved to know who he really was and where he came from. And I would help him. Even if that journey took us far away from this place. Even if it meant leaving everything I had ever known.

“I’ll see you there, Ari. Be ready.” He hangs up. No goodbye. No explanation. Just vibes and chaos. I stare at my phone like it betrayed me. “Okay… that was weird.” I walk back into the family room, and everybody is staring like I walked in naked. “That was Hunter,” I announce. “He’s having a Christmas gala the second weekend of December. He wants all of us to come.” Patrick nods. “I already got my invitation, but no date.” “Well,” I say, “sounds like he’s sending those out now.”
