"If we could not quench our hunger, both of our love and hearts will burn out" she said sarcastically. "It's Good, at least we would be called mates in hunger times" Rakesh started packing his violin in black case the way any mother was treated, her child carefully with love. Payal was reading his sad face silently as some kid is sad after his toy.

“Whatever-the-fuck. Anyway, I been watchin’ from here almost every night since then and he’s always gone real late on Wednesday nights. I’m goin’ in there and I’m bustin’ inta that stone chest . . . ” He reached behind him, unzipped his backpack and pulled out a short-handled, hand-held sledgehammer. He hefted it, like he was Thor and it was Mjölnir. “I’m bustin’ in there and gettin’ that box and I’m crushin’ all those tiles to fuckin’ powder. I dunno how I know it, but I do. Dad’s soul is trapped in them things, and I’m gonna let it out.”

Dakota POV . . It's f*cking hurt! This mere sacrifice I made just to escape from that gigantic cage. D*mn, my arm's still in pain like b*tch. Purposely slipping on a wet bathroom floor was torture-suicide, I would not recommend it.

They moved in slow, synchronized patterns, their heads tilted slightly upward as though listening to something only they could hear. “Lost souls?” one reaper asked, voice trembling. “No,” Veyra said softly. “Not lost. Bound.” The figures began to hum. The sound built slowly, harmonizing in layers, until the tunnel vibrated with it. The Hollow Choir. Every reaper in the Citadel knew the legend — that the first souls who defied Death were not erased, but bound beneath the Vein, their voices woven into its foundation as a warning. But the legend had always been just that — a myth.

One of them was being unemotional and he couldn't care less if it made him someone with a heart of stone. But the self-betrayal of the nine-month time span displayed the result on him. He broke his own theory of living and his traitor mind caused him to hope, wish, and anticipate. He became numb when nine month's desires, aspirations, and expectations were crushed in just one event. His face was still hard and stoic but inside he was breaking. The impact of the big loss hit him like the fiery breath of a dragon. His heart was shattering in the tiniest pieces.

I could actually see some streaks of white through the torn jeans as well. No wonder my knees had hurt so much. As it turned out, my flesh had already rubbed away, exposing the bones beneath. I didn't care that half my fingers were all broken, dislocated, or throbbing in pain. I did my best to put my hands together in a praying posture. Just then, Finnegan returned with a white ribbon in his hands, along with the worker. "I wish that Finnegan and Colette will be together forever." This line sounded too familiar to me. It suddenly tugged at my heart in such a painful manner that I couldn't breathe.

And then the supernatural bond rupture happened. The memories of that night still haunted me in unguarded moments. The party in full swing, music pounding, drinks flowing, laughter echoing off the high ceilings. And then the pain had hit, sudden, excruciating, like someone had reached into my chest and started tearing my soul apart piece by piece. The bond snapping, fragmenting, sending shockwaves through every fiber of my being.

The weakness and humiliation hurt more than the wounds. "It's people like you who spoil our society. You're like cockroaches and need to be gotten rid of," the man said and wanted to attack again. But Nicholas pulled the trigger and it was too late to do anything about it. The bullet, finding cover in the soft tissues of the man's leg, made him scream in pain and make a heartbreaking sound. The screams, the cries of children filled the entire street. And then silence.

Everything disappeared from my sight, leaving only blinding white light, which scorched my eyes. ‘’You are being punished for playing with the power which should never be in human hands. Your hun* souls will be cursed, and you won’t be able to find peace. You will be cursed to repeat your miserable life while the other parts of your soul die in great misfortune unable to find happiness both in life and death.’’ The dread coming from these words was enough to make me forget the horrible pain. This sounded so familiar but, at the same time, so strange. I didn’t have time to think, though. The pain slowly disappeared together with the lighting, and somebody’s voice was floating in my mind.
