“Tawnie said that I was not to answer any questions. She said to tell you that if you wanted an answer, you had to reach out to her.” I narrowed my eyes on him. “Don’t think this is over. If you even think about moving, I will hunt you down and devour you as if you were the enemy.” He lowered his head submissively, surprising me. “Yes, Madam.” I bared my teeth at him. “One, don’t fucking call me that. My name is Storm.” He lifted his head, grinning at me. “She said you would say that, too.” “Asshole! Be a good dog, and stay!” I ordered as I opened my link with Tawnie.

This is what she did to me. The man they call the Silent Storm… undone by a woman with soft eyes and a five-year-old who claimed my last name like she had earned it. Which she had. More than earned it. I exhaled, staring at the fire crackling in the hearth. The flames made everything feel golden, the room, the moment, the future I was praying she would give me.

Why was she asking me permission? I was the captive here. She stepped inside anyway, holding a tray. “Good morning,” she said gently. That’s when I realized something strange. My hands weren’t tied. My legs weren’t tied either. And the creepy man wasn’t here. My shoulders relaxed a little. The woman placed the tray down and sat near me. “My name is Mrs Crystal Stormborn. I'm the first lady of the house.” She said with a bright smile. Her voice felt calm, like warm water.

The woman yelped, falling in a messy heap beneath me as I gasped loudly, unable to take in enough air to stave off the burn in my throat as I stomped on her leg, aborting her attempt at running again. “What did you do bitch?” I gritted, aware that the rise and fall of my chest had lessened, and somehow knowing that the woman was not going to run again. Kayla Storm did not struggle to her feet like I had, stretching with a long sigh as though she had been looking forward to getting caught and that I had finally graced her with my intelligence. “What did you do?” I gasped, my eyes widening as I watched the woman shake the tinted plastic of a small bottle at me, affecting a crooked smile.

The word punches through me, shattering on the fire roaring in my chest. “No.” My voice is soft, but it cuts like steel. “I’m not yours, Kael. I’m not theirs. I’m not anyone’s.” His breath stutters. His grip falters. But I can’t stop. “Do you understand what I did?” My voice climbs, a brittle, burning thing. “I unmade a god. I tore the leash from my bones and burned the threads of fate until there was nothing left but this.” I fling out my arms, and the air convulses, the ground cracking wider as magic explodes from me in a surge of light. “I am not a queen. I am not a weapon. I am not a girl. I am the storm.”

“I know what you call her. Princess is a formality to call in public.” “Forgive me. What I was trying to say is that Storm can stand on her two feet without a man or somebody else’s help. She worked hard and provided for her needs back in the States. It may be different around here that she’s back on her duty, but to answer your question, yes.”

Right now though, my anxiety level was through the roof and I needed something to calm me down if I was going to make it through the next thirty minutes. “Where is your mate?” The bouncer asked finally after about five minutes of me standing there with them as I smoked. I motioned to the building. “Talking with Estel. Apparently, it was the only way I was going to get what I needed.” He chuckled and nodded. “Ms. Storm is truly incredible. Talented and kind. She is crazy powerful but she slums it with us a lot of times. Plus, she is so family focused.” I raised my eyebrow. “Family? I thought her mate wasn’t around.”

Janina had said that their goddess had always been very respectful of other gods and their creations, so it was important for witches to follow in her example even though not everyone did. Storm was a gorgeous woman. She had an olive complexion with chestnut colored hair that hung on her shoulders. Her almond-shaped eyes were copper with specks of green throughout them. They were framed by thick lashes and were absolutely beautiful. She was a little bit taller than me and had a slim figure, probably underweight because of her prisoner status. However, that did not distract from her beauty.
