The Way He Looked at Me
Ice sprays in sparkling shards.
He widens his stance, grinning. I crouch, mirroring him, knees wobbling. Helmeted, his face feels…different. Less hair, more eyes. Eyes that glow alive, mischievous, unnervingly bright. Focused. But not narrowed. Alive.
My breath catches, sharp and sudden. Supposed to exhale, but I can’t. Not when I’m staring at him. Not when he’s right there, the hottest, most unpredictable force in my life, just…waiting.
