' Cordia hissed, restless in my head. 'Because I have nowhere else to go,' I whispered, my throat raw. 'And because I still hope... just once... they’ll see me.' Hope. The cruelest weapon of all.

Even under the freezing wind, I could see sweat glistening faintly across his forehead. And through those eyes that never failed to keep me completely captivated, I saw it. Hope. Pure, terrifying hope hanging on whatever came out of my mouth next. My lips parted. “No...” I whispered.

As I drift off into an uneasy sleep, one thought echoes in my mind: Whatever truths await me, whatever power lies dormant within me, I'm ready to face it head-on. Because the alternative – living in ignorance, forever running from my destiny – is no longer an option. The countdown to my true awakening has begun. And I'm determined to rewrite the rules of the game. No matter the cost.
