My dream about him in the bathroom… It was unreal. I covered my face with my hands. “Idiot…” I whispered. “What have you done?” A small spark of hope flickered. What will happen if he really wakes up? It is dangerous and foolish. But I want it anyway. But right now, I have other thoughts circling my mind.

This is my problem and I need to handle this on my own. I sighed and got up. It's my time to use the bathroom. I don't want to see him. But, I need my wallet back, so whatever. If everything's meant to happen, then be it. I don't care whatever happens next. But, I am still gonna hope it can't be that bad.

Not for Julian. Not for fear. Not for anything. Tomorrow the war begins. But tonight, I have hope. And sometimes, that's enough.

“They weren’t rogues. They were… organized. Too calm. Too sure of something they thought I was.” Maxine frowned. “Which is?” I hesitated. That word—awakening—still crawled across my spine. I had heard it in the dark, tied to a chair, breath shaking, Myron unconscious beside me. “She’s awakening,” one of them had said. “If we don’t trigger it now, someone else will.” I wrapped my arms around myself. “They kept talking like there was something inside me. Something that was supposed to… emerge.” Maxine blinked. “Like what? A power?”

When I open them again, the silver-violet gleam is unmistakable. “Let them in,” I say. Because whatever I am becoming… whatever the world now fears or hopes for… I will face it awake and this time, I will not stand alone.
