I almost jumped out of the moving SUV with her driver at the wheel. "Take your hand away from there; it's gonna be fine." It's one of the most popular places in the city where everybody goes, and the paparazzi are bound to be lurking around every corner. "Listen to me, that single is kicking ass right now, and it's only going to get better. This is your time to shine, not hide away anymore. The others are going to meet us there, trust me; you won't even know that there are people around. Just keep a smile on your face. You look amazing, by the way."

All I had to do was make one leap and slid into it. I had only one shot at this. Just one. I sucked in a breath and exhaled. ‘Oh great goddess, help me.’

His eyes flicker with a mix of amusement and irritation, and I can tell I didn’t quite close the door quickly enough. “What’s going on, Maerilee?” he demands, his voice low but edged with something dangerous. “Why is your bodyguard half-naked in your room?” I meet his gaze head-on, refusing to back down. “I’ve discovered Akin is my One,” I say, the words coming out stronger than I feel. “So, as I already told you, we have nothing else to discuss.” River blinks, and then he laughs, the sound rich and disbelieving.

“I love you, Milena La Croix, with everything I am.” I smile as I hold my hand out and feel Xander place the gun in my hand, still smiling at Zion before I look upwards. A little something I planned. One shot. One chance to get this right. The crowd quietens as I find my target up in the night sky and pull the trigger. One single bullet that hits its target dead on, and then the sky is alight with the glowing explosions that follow, creating the words ‘I LOVE YOU, ZION KING’ in the air before they begin to fade away.

I think inwardly, silently watching and waiting to see what my little mate was involved in, but for some reason, I just can’t pinpoint her as someone who would be so involved in my world. Hell, my being there was a perfect example of that, but even then, something wasn’t sitting right. “These bullets,” the man announces before I can think too hard on it. “Are special grade and can be filled with whatever you desire, and once the needles are released, it will immediately inject your enemy with it.”
