IRIS Walking down the bustling streets of the city, I embarked on the journey to find a job. The decision to take this step had been driven by a desire to regain a sense of independence, to create a space for myself in the human world. The conversations with Arnold had given me the courage to take this leap, even if the path ahead was filled with challenges.

It's infuriating. It's already hot outside, and I've been walking for quite some time. I don't even know where I'm going next to apply for a job. I don't have money for a taxi or any other transportation. My car is just parked at home, almost out of gas. My parents will send money next week, but I'm not relying on them. I need to find a job. I happened to stop in front of a tall building, several meters away. My feet brought me to the building of Cavanaugh Finance Corp.

"Why are you staring at me, do you need something?" I almost fell from the couch when he looked at me. "N-Nothing. I-I just want to ask if you can provide me with a job? I mean, I can't just stay at your house all day doing nothing. I want to work."

I said and my uncle walked in. "You okay?" He asked the same thing and I gestured to my aunt to explain about the situation to her husband. "She needs a real job." "Real job? But you got school." He turned to me and I shook my head. "I took a break, I can't afford to pay it so I need to get a lot of money to get back." "My friend just told me that there's a job but as a secretary.. do you want it?" He asked and my eyes widened. I nodded.

How irresponsible I can be? I started looking for a job at various places but no one even gave me a chance knowing I don’t have a proper degree. I explained to them I know a lot but they needed a piece of paper to know if I am capable or not. The day went by but I couldn’t find anything. I was thirsty and hungry too but didn’t have any money to get something. I sat on the footpath and saw a few people standing near me. I got up and asked if they have any vacancies for a job or know about one but they looked at me like I am an alien. I walked a little and sat back at the footpath grabbing my bag at my chest not wanting to lose it when someone tapped me on my shoulder.

Stella stared at him In confusion; "I don't get you. Why are you suddenly sounding desperate? it's not even up to a week and you're already talking about doing any job." "This is Nigeria. Even fresh graduates are still looking for work. Losing my job was not even in the plan at all because right now I need money." "You don't have any investment you can fall back on during this state?" "I do but I just have some bills to pay and there's no way I'll pay back without working." "A loan?" "Yes, please I'm in need of work. Whatever it may be even if it's a driver, gatekeeper, or whatever. Right now, I have no choice."

I was tired of sitting at home all day so I need a job and I wanna go out to look for one. " I want to look for a job." I spit out, almost not calculating. " A job?" " Yes. I wanna be useful and not sit at home all day." I say and continue before she taunts me." It's gonna be a decent job and I'm not following or visiting any man. I'm sorry about that stranger, Gray, and I'll never go close to him again." Now i feel like a stupid teenager again. Like I'm in highschool. " So I should believe you?"

I uttered, annoyed and concerned about him thinking that he is already being a burden to me, but it is not. Tommorow I am planning to find a new job, stable and not a toxic kind of work. My mother is already gone, and I can't afford to lose my father as well. In the next day I decided to find some posts online regarding about job hiring thingy. Some online informations are not detailed that is why I am hesitating. I tried contacting one of those posts. I've read that they are looking for bank cashiers.
