A smile crept across my face— And then my gaze caught onto a strange yet familiar silhouette, too familiar. Stepping forward, a black rifle glinted under the lights. Aiming. At Mason. My pulse stopped. No… not my Mason. “Mason!!!” I screamed, running toward him as the trigger was pulled.

I was perplexed, struggling to comprehend his words. Reaching for the firearm on the table, he continued, "And now, back to the present moment, with a team by my side, I demand unwavering loyalty from each and every one of them." He aimed the gun in my direction. Terrified, I closed my eyes and flinched. The next sound I heard was the deafening blast of a gunshot.

“If somebody betrays you, what do you do? You let ‘em walk? Or you end ‘em?” The room went still. Every eye was fixed on me. His men mumbled. He stepped back and folded his hands. I lifted my gaze off him. My fingers curled around the grip. Cold metal, sure and steady in my palms. “Oh, I guess she don't know how.” He stepped behind me, voice low at my ear. “Safety’s off. You line the sight. Right between the eyes. Quick. Clean. No hesitatin’.” I swallowed, lifting the barrel.

I stand, stroll around a bit, limber up. The adrenaline is pounding. Calm down... I hold out my hand. It's trembling a little. I stroll some more, take a couple of deep breaths, then try again, splaying fingers. Steady as a rock... Taking my place, flat-chested to the ground, I sight him. The crosshairs weave one way then the other until... There... Got him... ... they centre squarely over my target. It's a hell of a shot. Over a mile

I can't see which one. I reach into my ammo pack and pull out the red ball. "Shit. You got a ball?" One of the guys whispers. I shush him and tell them all to stay put. I sneak around to see who it is. Then it hits me. The familiar woody scent that makes my body melt. I smirk to myself as I load the ball marked with a B into my gun. When he comes into full view, I pop up. "Hey!" I yell.

Do you know how many bullets I wanted to put into every man at that charity ball? -Why would you want to do that? -Because they looked at you in a way only I'm allowed to. But you know what stopped me from doing that? The thought that you're mine and that tonight you'll sleep in my arms, not theirs. The thought that nobody can take you away from me and that only I can touch you.

“You’ve got this!” Taking a deep breath, I steadied my hand on the grip of the gun. I aimed carefully, blocking out the chaos around me. The sound of bullets whizzing by only fueled my determination. I could do this; I had to do this. With a sharp exhale, I squeezed the trigger. The gun fired with a loud bang, and I felt the recoil jolt through my arm. I watched as my bullet struck true, hitting one of the rear tires with a satisfying pop. The van lurched violently, swerving as the driver fought to regain control.

Just to let the anger out but I decided to hold it in. Each breath taken blew to the fire that was already deadly. Someone would pay. Someone had to pay. I stared straight into the review mirror, my driver stepping on the gas. I was in no condition to drive, my car left in Lethu’s driveway. The darkness settled and took root around but I could barely even see. All I craved was blood. All I craved were screams and death.

I gripped the disruptor, the cold weight of the metal biting into my palm. 3-2-1. My heart found the rhythm, steady and sharp. I didn't look at the door. I looked at the weapon.

My eyes begin to slowly shut, “If you're not the first thing I see when I wake up, I'll take back my word and kill that motherfucker.” Then everything goes black.
