As long as I brought it to the police, they wouldn’t escape justice. My whole body was weak, my lips pale as death, but I still dragged myself toward the station. However, I didn’t even make it past the hospital gates before something struck my head with crushing force. I glanced down and saw a sharp stone, smeared with fresh blood. Blood trickled down my forehead, blinding half my vision. In that moment, all I could see was red. “You beast! How could you do this to your sister? I’ve told you countless times that without her, you wouldn’t even exist!”

I wanted to look to my left and find Victor. I wanted my dada back and everything I had lost to come back to me. For one selfish moment, I wished the universe would stop taking things from me and give something back. “I wish wishes actually came true,” I muttered. The moment the words left my mouth, something changed. My blood began moving faster. I opened my eyes. The familiar fire started beneath my skin.
