The book is published on a Tuesday in October. It arrives in boxes at the foundation. Real physical books with my name on the cover and the story of everything that came after inside. The second book. The one about healing and ice rituals and children growing up and the specific mundane work of choosing someone again and again.

Hayden's gaze fell on the back of my hand, and his calm eyes wavered for a brief moment. I pushed past them and asked a staff member for an ice pack. As I walked out, I turned back for a quick glance. By the window, Selena sat there looking unhappy. Hayden sat beside her. His expression was gentle as he grilled meat for her himself. The ice pack in my hand chilled me all the way to the core, and the last trace of hope inside me vanished completely. The cold and distant man everyone treated like a saint was grilling meat for Selena himself.

She squatted in front of the water and di-p her hand in it,,the water was so cold. She suddenly smiled when an idea stucked into her head,,she controlled the water with her mind and it turned to ice immediately,she grinned wi-dely but the smile was short lived when suddenly the ice broke and melted, ‘What’s going on?’ She thought and t©uçhed the water,it was almost boiling,,so h0t. She looked up and turned to Kingston but he didn’t move,,she turned back to the water and tried freezing it again but each time it happens,the water melt right away. She stood up feeling frustrated and walked to Kingston angrily

Imogen It’s so late and really, I ought to go to sleep but after watching the game on my small television in the apartment and getting into bed, I started reading and once I am stuck in an Elsie Silver book, well that’s it I am hooked and that old adage comes into play, just one last chapter before bed. Only, in my case it was right until the end of the book and since I had only started it the other night, of course I finished it and now it’s already nearly midnight.

I had a dream while I was sleeping that night. I dreamed of a young girl starting a list of times she was being overlooked in a brand new journal. She wrote down the number "1" on the first page. As she wrote it down, she muttered, "Once this reaches the 99th time, I won't want Mom, Dad, Jeff, and Annie anymore." After that, the girl stared at the number "1" in contemplation, hesitated before changing it to "0.5" eventually. The entries read, "Mom and Dad came back from their business trip and bought me and Annie new clothes, but they got my size wrong. It was too small. My arms and legs were sticking out, and all my classmates laughed at me. I felt so sad."

But this was not what Caitlin wanted: she needed to heal Scarlet, not kill her. As she finished yet another book and slid it aside, with still no mention of healing anywhere, she began to feel a sense of despair. She lifted the final book on the stack, a small, leather-bound volume with a red spine, entitled De Fascino Libri Tres by Leonardo Vairo. Caitlin summoned her knowledge of Latin, and knew that translated to: Three Books of Charms, Spells and Sorceries.

“You don’t tremble like the others.” “Should I?” she whispered. “No.” His answer came too quickly. Too firm. He looked away, like he had revealed something he didn’t intend to. Then he handed her a small velvet box. Elara blinked. “What’s this?” “Open it.” Inside was a thin silver bracelet with a tiny flame symbol carved into it. “It’s a tracking cuff,” he said. “But it will never hurt you unless you break the rules.” Elara hesitated. “Does every slave get one?”

Stupid heart. A book dropped to my desk and before I could speak, the culprit walked away in haste with Zayn. It was his chemistry book. Was he lending it to me? Or was he setting a trap? He might tell people that I stole it because I missed the class. Well, since he dropped it, I might as well look at it. I browsed through it, gradually getting to the topic we had learned that day. It was well-detailed, more than the previous notes.
