Life certainly is full of surprises. While Julian tends to his shoes, I get up, walk over to the panel and input our details. “Do you want your name or an alias?” “Huh?” Julian asks in confusion, doing up his laces. “For the screen,” I say, pointing. “Can be anything you like.” “Julian is fine,” he concedes, getting up and walking over as I put his name in after mine. I walk over to the ball spitter and look over the selection of balls, immediately gravitating to the galaxy-looking one, which thankfully, has small holes to fit my dainty fingers. I look over the others and find a nice deep blue one that looks like it would fit Julian.

“He’s excited. Can’t blame the man. A grandchild and a doctor-to-be daughter in one go. That’s a lot of happiness.” I bit my lip, gazing at my reflection. “I know, but... a ball? It feels... overwhelming.” “What’s on your mind?” Enzo asked, closing his book entirely now, his full attention on me. “I’ve danced with you before, Enzo. But a ball is a whole other story. I never really grew up with... well, princessy stuff. It makes me nervous,” I confessed.

Though I am not an expert in terms of those sports in which I just lost, I am good in something which they can't beat me. “Nothing much.” But my heart twisted as soon as I said the name. Because it didn’t feel like nothing. The night had been replaying in my mind like a movie on a constant loop. He groaned as he got hard and I grinned at him over my shoulder when my ball hit the corner at exactly the right angle to sink into the hole. I rotated my ass one more time before going to collect my ball. “You bet your sweet ass I’m no longer a little girl,” I muttered under my breath.

So I took a deep breath, squared my shoulders, and stepped through the doorway back into the ball. Time to prove I wasn't broken. Even if I felt like I was falling apart inside.
