"King Hydrae ordered Thud to slaughter every immortal. He ordered that no one should live---," I cut her words. "Do immortals die?" "Of course, they do through decapitation. That's what the Aquans did," she narrated. "They were strong you said. How were they decapitated?" It confused me.

We send ravens out to water them for us in that method and it works perfectly" he explained. " Oh" Mitchell said. " If that's it, it's then a brilliant idea" he agreed. The car slowed as the trees thickened. Elara sat upright in the back seat, hands folded over her knees, posture perfect despite the fatigue crawling along her spine. Her mother had reminded her: First impressions matter most. So she did not slouch. Did not look out the window like a child. Did not fidget. She stared straight ahead. The iron gates loomed up like jaws, black and ancient, set into stone pillars veined with moss. The driver didn’t speak. Just pressed a button. The gates groaned open, reluctantly, like something old and angry was being disturbed.

They said it would take three years. Bu it took eight years. Eight years of equations, prototypes, failures, and cautious optimism. Eight years that — for someone who had lived through centuries — felt longer than any eternity before it. For me, immortality had always been a curse measured in heartbeats, not years. I know you haven’t been raised to know their ways and I think you need to see it from an immortal’s point of view as normal.” Aunt Beverly said but she had no clue what I witnessed before my eyes or the fact of what happened because of his actions.

I started my car and raced it at full speed. Carvera vines had microscopic fangs like that of snakes which stored lethal poison, strong enough to paralyze an immortal for eternity. Adult carveras were impossible to deal with, even for immortals, because the only way to loosen the vine’s grip was to hurt their roots or uproot them from the ground completely. And they could grow as large as a beech tree with their roots spreading as deep as thrice their size. But the one in my office was just a baby sapling. Barely a month old. Even a weakling like her could uproot it with bare hands.
