Chapter 11: A Debt in Blood Pain pulsed through my skull, dragging me slowly back to consciousness. My head felt like it was wrapped in fog, each thought sluggish and disjointed. My body—limp and heavy, like something had drained all life from it—lay uncomfortably on cold, unforgiving stone. A damp, stagnant air filled the room, the pungent scent of mildew mixing with something metallic, like blood, so thick I could almost taste it.

He was pale as a ghost, and his heart had stopped beating. He was already cold as ice. Meanwhile, the sounds of bragging from Wayne's room hit me like a sledgehammer. "Ms. Stewart! Shouldn't we have the doctor check on Frank, just in case?" "Josh’s son is as worthless as his life. He won't die that easily." Jessica's voice was soft, but it cut through me like ice. "Just take care of yourself. If he dies, the Stewart family will have one less problem to deal with.

A woman who was killed by someone of unknown origin fell to the ground in a stream of blood and turned the neck with oozing blood towards Akshara. I laid there for a while , not having the willpower or mental strength to do any thing but face the horrible truth - this is my life from hence forth.

My legs feel wobbly as I go upstairs. The moment I reach the bedroom I take off my bloodstained clothes and I get into the shower. The hot water is not helping me at all, I’m still shivering. I had never seen a person die before… and now I just saw a man being murdered right in front of me. I cover my ears so I don’t hear the gunshots, but they are inside my head. I sit on the shower floor and I let the hot water run down my body.
