I stared past her, vision splitting into two, then three. “I’m going to watch you die,” she said. “And when you do, I’ll whisper to your corpse that your mate gave up.” I could barely breathe. The cold was spreading, blooming from my stomach like frost. Evelyn stepped over me. I was still bleeding. Still conscious. But just barely. And I couldn’t tell if the darkness creeping into the edges of my vision was blood loss or defeat. I didn’t move. Couldn’t. The blood beneath me felt thick, sticky, warm… and then suddenly cold. DAISY POV Blood dripped from my face onto the cold concrete floor. Drop… after drop… after drop. Warm and sticky, it slid down my cheek, tracing a slow path along my jaw before soaking into the collar of my shirt. The metallic scent filled my nose, thick and nauseating. Something personal The moment I saw him, blood on his face, barely able to stand, his body already giving out before he even made it fully through the door, something in me had gone cold in a way that wasn't familiar. Not the usual, calm, calculated cold I used when dealing with problems, this was deeper, darker, the kind of cold thSt didn't think, didn't weigh options, didn't give a shit about consequences.
