Damn it, this wasn't an action movie. I growled at something very rude, fasted my M19 harder, and sprinted down the sidewalk on this side of the street. I never let our prey out of my sight for a moment. It was almost like a slalom. Again and again I had to avoid people and then I almost ran into a shelter. There was room for a handful of people in these small buildings. If you had to get to safety from a prole, you could run in there, seal the room and call the venators from inside via an emergency column.

It was an operational habit she had formed over the years; she preferred the shadows over the bright, exposed lights of the main street. As she began her solitary walk down the long, cobblestone alleyway, an uncomfortable sensation crept along the back of her neck. The air felt heavy, charged with a sudden, subtle tension. She felt it instinctively—the unmistakable impression that someone was trailing her steps. She stopped abruptly, snapping her head back to scan the darkness behind her. Nothing. The alleyway was completely empty, save for a few rusted trash bins and the flickering glow of a broken streetlamp.

Almost there. But as she neared the exit, a large shadow emerged from behind a stack of old wooden crates blocking her path. A man stepped out of the darkness with unnerving calmness, as if he had been waiting for her there all along. Claire stopped so suddenly she nearly stumbled. Her eyes went wide as she recognized the figure standing before her. "Arthur?" Her voice came out hoarse, barely audible.

But one thing was certain: the shadows were closing in, and time was running out. Without hesitation, Evryn took a step forward, her pulse racing. The shadow loomed large, its eyes glowing with a malignant hunger, as if it recognized the role she was to play in this cataclysmic event. And yet, she couldn’t falter. The light from the figure beside her was slowly dimming, its struggle growing more intense with each passing second. The balance between light and darkness was in peril. "Evryn! Close the door! Now!" the figure shouted, their voice strained.

Then something that looked like a round ball made of dark metal fire with really sharp edges all around it left his hand and flew through the air. The attack hit Liora directly on her stomach with terrible force, which made her fall completely to the ground. She started vomiting up even more blood than before, and it pooled on the floor around her.
