MOON OF ASHES
The deeper you go, the closer you are to me.
Ava’s heart hammered as they stumbled into the shaft. The air grew colder, damp stone pressing in on both sides. Wolves crowded close, their eyes gleaming in the dark. Behind them, the mist surged into the tunnel, swallowing the firelight.
Torches flared as Caleb struck flint, their light dim against the pressing black. Shadows writhed on the walls, twisting into shapes that weren’t there. Every step echoed, as if the mine itself was alive.
“Keep moving!” Mara barked, though her voice shook.
