In This Corner Of The World Book Novels & Stories

I begin working, trying to make it somewhat homely. As I am setting my books on the desk, books which I might probably never read again, I find something unusual. The inside of the middle drawer on the left side of the desk has less space than the other drawers. I frown and pull out the drawer even more. It is then that my eyes fall on the edge. The corner is very slightly raised. Or there’s a gap. I try to dig my nail into the minuscule opening. It’s a wooden sheet that matches the inside of the other drawers, but it has somehow been placed separately.

It looked like it had aged a bit, she must've had this one for a while. I flipped it open, my body buzzing with excitement. This one had a pretty cover and description so I couldn't wait to delve into their world. At least for now it would distract me from thoughts of Kaleb. It will, right? I gnawed on my lips, shifting me my chair as I glanced around the library. I was the only one here, tucked in the furthest corner where no one usually wandered to. Huge ancient history books surrounded me on the shelves, something my generation cared little for, so they would never step foot here.

Alex became red in the face and scratched his nape as he trailed behind me, when the book assistant silenced him with a ‘‘Ssshhh’’ command, because some people were reading silently at the far corner. ‘‘No need…’’ I whispered, waving my hand. ‘‘I’ve been to this place before…’’ This bookstore wasn’t that big and not crowded. There’s actually another one down the street which was so much bigger and looked like the headquarters, while this one was most likely a branch office for the bookstore. But I liked it here more. I tapped my finger on my chin, looking up at the titles of the biography books that were arranged alphabetically on the upper shelf.

My favourite dangerous place. Greg points at me, knowing what I am like in this place. “Fifteen minutes.” I grin if that's how he wants to play it. Oh, baby, challenge accepted. We wander through the shops. I drift toward the books immediately. I need my on-flight reading material. After standing and staring for longer than necessary, I pick up West of Forever by Corinne Michaels. Greg appears beside me, holding a magazine. “Found mine.” I look at the magazine and tsk to myself. Of course, Greg would want this reading material. “Just MotoX?”

Surely she could survive this new world. But deep down, she knew one thing: her past wasn’t finished with her. And whatever shadows had followed her into the city were already plotting their next move. A faint noise from the garden made her turn. It's just a flicker of movement, too quick to identify. Her pulse quickened. “They’re close,” she whispered. Mike’s eyes met hers. “And they’re not waiting.” Outside, the city shone like gold and glass, alive and indifferent. But in its streets and alleys, hidden among the lights, something moved. Watching. —END OF CHAPTER 2— A flicker in the garden caught Clara’s eye. “They’re close,” she whispered.

Thank you for crying with them, celebrating with them, and hoping for their happy ending. I hope their story touched your heart the way writing it touched mine. I have been reading this old dusty book for about an hour now, I groaned and gave up on the book, I got up and went to go put the book back, but when I was about to put the book in the slot I saw a little door. There was a button on it so I pressed it, it made a little squeak which got everyones attention, they stared at what I was doing, I opened it fully, inisde there was a giant leather book. I pulled it our and read the cover 'Incwadi nezilo'

I walked into the inner part of the book shop and excused myself after I belched. “This one is Six Thousand Naira”. “If you interrupt mw again, you won’t like what I’ll do to you…” The shopkeeper saw my countenance and left me alone, before going to fetch cellophane bag. He picked up the 2009 Guinness Book of World Records and bagged it, and waited patiently for me to pick another book. I soon picked The Family by Mario Puzo and Carol Gino. I was handing the novel to the shopkeeper, who was already with a calculator, when I saw it. It was a dark hardcover book, with pink and dark designs. I smiled broadly and extracted it from the shelf with both hands.

I am certain that the shock I felt was written on my face, even as a horse. Hades! The first car, which I conclude is Rio’s, is the biggest car I’ve seen in my life! And Haera’s, who is a lot smaller than his, is still big enough compared to those we are using at Audravaria. Aside from that, these cars look so odd. I already learned about these on the book I was reading about Earth—I’ve quite read a lot about this world, after all—but it’s still strange to see their actual look.
