I told him. “Sound like a good plan to me. A few of the patrols did let me know that they have seen an increase in those giant ass paw prints. I am not sure why they would be popping up this much and why now. They have also noticed some weird activity associated with the land next to ours.” Nash said.

When one gets too close, she kicks them with her back paw, slicing her claws across their face. I refocus on the area ahead of us, seeing that the patrols have collected together ready to tackle Echo when she gets too close. She quickly looks behind us and not seeing anyone close on our right side, she lowers her head and runs full-out toward the patrols. At the very last minute, she twists agilely to the side, skirting around them as they all push forward trying to tackle her.

Hank, too, is staring at my momma with lust in his eyes. “Take her to the lineup.” Momma says to the women and I’m pulled away and I act terrified. I know I will be saved, but I have to act scared. I hear a roar and turn my head and I see the most beautiful creature I have ever seen. This must be the Patger. It is pacing nervously in the cage. It’s all black with faint orange stripes underneath. The face is like a tiger. It has amber-green eyes. It looks right at me and I just stare back. This is so wrong.

“Understood?” “Yes, sir,” the guards responded in unison. His eyes flicked back to me, but I refused to meet his gaze. I didn’t want to see the anger or the control he wielded so effortlessly. Instead, I focused on my new companion. The puppy was a mixture of cream and light brown, with a soft patch of black fur near one ear. His eyes, big and round, seemed to hold a curiosity about the world that made me want to protect him from everything—even from Aiden.

Goofy has remarkable patience. Despite Doggo pestering him every day, he hasn’t left him covered in bites. I patted Goofy’s head and apologized, “Next time Doggo bites you, feel free to swat him a few more times—he needs to learn his lesson.”

A little while later, I begin to hear footsteps, and the snapping of twigs. "Cleo?" Ike's voice is getting louder now. It wasn't fair, he could feel where I was through the mate bond. He was probably only a hundred feet away now. "Come on Cleo, I can't hunt down you and Nate." My panther rolls her eyes but jumps down from the tree smoothly. Everything I wouldn’t usually let her eat. Reg cheered. ‘Pizza party!’ He started up a chant of, ‘Pizza party, pizza party, pizza party!’ to which he shook his paw in the air. It quickly derailed into an out-of-tune version of the Fast Food Song, which he had apparently learnt the entire dance to as well.

The Forest Paw wolves have earned the training day cut short. “Tomorrow, Lease, Dominic, Miles, and Christian will train the Forest Paw wolves. I want to take Scarlet and train her one-on-one.” I call out above the happy crowd of wolves, getting an excited grin from Scarlet and a yes ma’am from everyone else. It felt nice being as one in a group of wolves working towards the same goal, the goal of becoming stronger. I was proud of Forest Paw, even though I was no longer one of them.

Playing coy, Scarlett doesn't make a move as Slade's chocolate fur brushes against mine, sending shivers down our spine. Giving him a moment to drink, waiting patiently until the right moment, I swipe my paw into the water, splashing water on his face playfully before dashing off again. Something like a laugh escapes my lips as his growl rumbles through the small field, his paws vibrating the ground behind me as he tries to catch up.
