Medicine was my passion—it gave me a sense of purpose, a way to ease the burdens of others.
One evening, while sitting in the cafeteria, I chatted with Lisa. “I don’t know, Lisa… I feel like I need someone to love me,” I admitted.
Lisa’s eyes widened. “You’re perfect on your own, Emma. You don’t need anyone.”
I tilted my head. “Why do you say that?”
She hesitated before sighing. “Love always brings pain. It’s better to be alone.”
I frowned. “But I want something else from life. I want someone to love me so deeply, so passionately, that they forget everything except me.”
