His words trailed off as he reached for her, as if his mind still couldn’t quite comprehend the fact that she was standing in front of him, alive.
“I’m fine, Adrian,” Isabel said, her voice trembling with the weight of her own emotions. “I got paroled. They found out Cecilia’s alive and, well, I’ve been a model prisoner. I’ve paid for my mistakes.”
She paused, her eyes searching his face for something, anything that might show him that he still wanted her. That he still cared.
“Where’s Elias?” Isabel asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Her son. The child she had lost, the child she had been kept from for far too long. “Aren’t you going to welcome me back?”
