She pointed toward an all-white desk accompanied by a chair. “It’s not much of a job, just something to keep you company and out of that room.” She smiled at me, and I returned the gesture with a forceful smile of my own. My eyes drifted to the open book, and curiosity suddenly weighed in my chest. “What are you reading?” I asked quietly, nodding toward the book behind her. A cautious, almost guarded look clouded Elder Isolde’s eyes before she sighed, deciding to let me in on it. “I’m reading a book on the wolf species—” she began, and I nodded absentmindedly, my eyes still on the open page. “—ones who cannot shift.”

She walked to the other part of the library and returned the book. "It is one of a kind ma'am, " she told me. "You have a very good taste. This book is just three copies in this library and not everyone had ever asked of it before." I nodded my head and took the book from her. I walked to the darkest part of the library and sat there as I began flipping through the pages of the book. The library was deserted. In fact, I was the only one in the whole of the wide library, and the only sounds that were heard were the sounds that I made as I flipped through each page of the book.

These men were extremely formal and wouldn’t speak to me at all, sometimes I wondered if Nikolai had commanded them not to engage in conversation with me. I sat outside the balcony, propped up on the windows edge reading a novel about a girl who’d fallen in love with a prince and had her heart broken by him, I was on the chapter where she meets his older brother for the first time, and I couldn’t help but groan at the cliche and corniness of the book. It was entirely predictable, but reading was the only thing that kept me same in my time of isolation. I was so distracted with my nose in the book, that I hadn’t noticed Nikolai approaching behind me.

On it is an ancient book bound in leather and adorned by runes. “Could this be what we’ve been searching for?” she asks, her blue eyes are full of hope. “There’s only one way to find out,” I reply, stepping forward to examine the book more closely. As I reach out to take it, I’m hit with a wave of nausea and my skin feels like it’s on fire. “Something’s not right,” I state to Quinn as she tries to take the book from the stand.

She was just writing because she wanted to without feeling like she had to hurry. Down the hall the computers were humming with a blue light. The program that showed how many people were reading her books The Architecture of Trust was open on her screen. It said that millions of people were reading her books on GoodNovel and NovelSnack.. She did not care about that as much as she used to. The special system she and Leo had built was working by itself and it was keeping her books safe from people who might try to control her. She did not have to check how many people were reading her books all the time. She was happy about that.
