I was in a room I didn't know, holding a gun I didn't recognize. A man stepped out from the shadows. "You are early," he said. It was the Publisher. He looked young, healthy, and evil. "We haven't even started chapter one yet." I looked at him and smiled. It was the deadliest smile I had. "Then let's skip to the end," I said.

“…the real game begins.” I sat frozen, my heartbeat thundering in my chest as he rose to his full height and turned toward the door. Without another glance, Finn walked out, leaving the room as the air around me crackled with the ghost of his words. The real game begins… A very bad feeling rose in my chest. My eyes stayed on the floor, trembling faintly as Phina stirred within me. The scent of dominance, familiar and suffocating, drifted closer, carried by heavy, purposeful footsteps.

Zane opened it without hesitation, his heart pounding. “If you think the game has already begun, you’re mistaken. What you’ve seen so far is only the prelude. The real game is about to start. The words Rule Book were stamped in bold letters on the cover. “You’ve got one job,” the man growled, his voice low and dangerous. “Follow the rules. And don’t make me regret letting you live.” Wren’s grip tightened on the book as the door slammed shut. She swallowed the bile rising in her throat. This wasn’t survival. This was a game. And if she wanted to win, she’d have to play by their rules… until she could rewrite them.
