It's Not About You Novels & Stories

As I laid there, waiting for him, Perry quietly crawled back into my mind. “Let’s break up! You’re not what I want anymore, I need more and you can’t give me that.” My head started spinning as the words kept popping up. The fact that he still went ahead after saying all that, to say the annoying cliche line - it’s not you, it’s me… dude, you just literally said it’s all me!

"I don't want to be your girlfriend." "I'm just kidding." "Whatever. Then, how was your trip?" "Very annoying." "What do you mean?" "Yes, you know yourself when handsome men get on public planes." "Hahaha, I just realized it. Then, what happened? Did you agree?" "Hey, I'm not that type of guy." "Okay, I am just kidding." "Whatever. Just continue your intimacy with Zara now. Don't keep teasing me." "Hmm, I want one too, but right now Zara is breastfeeding. You haven't forgotten that it's 08:08 AM here?"

Never with so much at stake. “It’s not your fault, it’s nothing to do with you. Don’t you see, life is never about you. It’s about everyone around you. Pull your head out of your ass and see it from Winona’s side.” “I do see her side. I knew she needed that week. But it’s the fact that she was with you that cuts me deep. That you could think so little of us…” My voice breaks, and I clench my fists, trying to hold onto the anger so I don’t crumble.

I obediently sat down without touching the dishes in front of me. "Grandma was talking to you, didn't you hear?" Mark spoke in an irritated tone. I wasn't sure if he was annoyed because I didn't hear his grandmother or because his grandmother scolded him. "Sorry, Ms. Anderson Sr., I was too hungry and didn't pay attention." I cast an apologetic glance towards her. My teacher used to say that apologies should be sincere. Actually, my haste wasn't due to extreme hunger but rather the fear of not finishing my meal promptly and facing criticism for leaving leftovers.

“I don’t..what is it? Hmm? How come..all these weeks, these past months that I took care of him. I did everything for him without even ..I did everything wholeheartedly and when he fell sick..Nothing, nothing I did felt like it was working. And you..you come in..One day! And Bam! He’s up and about, smiling and cheerful again! Why? What do you have that I don’t? Hmm? Tell me! What did I do wrong?” Siri made to hold young man’s arm again, but Aroon shrunk back even as he screamed, “Tell me! What is it?!!” “Aroon..it’s not you. It’s just timing..it’s fate. I ..I was just there first.” “You were there first? ..But you are married!!”

He snapped. “No, I just think that even earlier too, you were mad with me because I was always following around, and now when I am not, you are calling me names. Next what I will be, currently I am an attention whore, then I might be something bigger, like what, the “S” word. Should I spell it for you?” I wheeze. “Don’t put words in my mouth. You know what I am trying to say.” “I am not putting words in your mouth. I am just repeating what you have just said to me.”

“This is about you, not anyone else. Do what you will for yourself, not for anyone else.“ I took a deep breath. “Let’s forget about that for now.” I said going back to my food. “Let’s eat.” “Okay.”

“What do you mean, it’s not about you?” Her frown only deepened. “I mean, it’s not about me?” She said simply, repeating the words as if that would make them more obvious. Tino hummed. “Right, yeah. Of course,” he nodded along, stopping to ask, “but what is it about, then?”
