Her voice was irritated, edged with hurt. "What? No, I'm not." I wiped at my eyes, trying to catch my breath. A few stray chuckles escaped as I straightened up. "It's just—I get you, and I understand everything, but somehow all what you said seems really funny to me. Maybe because I didn't expect to hear any of this from you." I paused, my expression turning serious. "But I'm afraid none of what you just said can work."

She barely laughed at his jokes. “What’s funny?”

Not a sandwich in any sense of the word. ‘This is killing you, isn’t it?’ Noushka giggled. ‘It isn’t even funny.’ I grumbled. ‘You know he is doing it on purpose, right?’ she urged, and I would have been stupid not to. ‘Of course, but it is hard not to react. His idea are just crazy.’

Me: Lol Dane: I’m glad you find this funny. Me: Are you telling me you aren’t laughing? Dane: No, baby girl. I’m not laughing.

The joke's on me. It didn't work.

I shook my head, wiping the corner of my eyes with my ringless finger. “I-I’m sorry,” I say, in between fits, “It's just that this whole thing”, I gesture between the two of us, “is fucking hilarious, don't you think?” The corners of his lips twitch slightly, fighting an annoyed smile “Funny isn't the word I would use to describe your current situation, Solnishko” There's an edge in the way he says those words that cause the laughter to quickly die down on my tongue. What the fuck did he mean by that?

To him, the joke fell flat. "See! The truth is that what that person is saying isn't hilarious, but I've heard a number of people discussing this movie, and they all claim that the novel is funny, which it isn't. I'm now playing along merely to avoid looking like a jerk." I make a stern expression at Arthur before laughing out loud. I honestly don't see anything else that's hilarious in this movie, but since everyone else is laughing, I decided to join in. Arthur shakes his head, understanding why my laughing sounded forced.
