Ex-Husband's Regret
He continues staring and the intensity of it makes me shift uncomfortably from foot to foot.
When he still doesn’t say anything, I turn to leave.
“Wait…” His voice comes out rough, almost strained, as his hand wraps around my arm. It’s not tight or forceful. Just enough to stop me.
“What?” I snap, yanking slightly against his hold. “I swear, if you’re about to apologize again, I’ll shove my swollen foot down your throat.”
“I’m not…” He exhales, like the words themselves are heavy. “I finally get what you’ve been trying to tell me all along. Apologizing doesn’t fix anything… A million apologies can’t undo the damage that’s already been done.”
