I stared at him for a long time. "Will you keep your word?" "I will." I was silent for a while, then sighed. "Fine. Just one dinner." His eyes lit up. In that instant, he looked as if he had received the greatest gift in the world. "Okay! What do you want to eat? I know a place nearby-" "Anything. You choose." He chose a quiet restaurant nearby. The lighting was warm, and the private room held only the two of us. He sat across from me, his eyes never leaving my face.

Why is this happening to me? I was still sitting on the bed, lost in thought. What will become of me? Am I getting married to an old man? Is he even going to treat me, right? At least, will he treat me with respect? Right? These thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door opening, revealing Auntie with two other women. I started to back away a little when she spoke up, “You either choose the easy way or the hard way.” She faked a smile.

I turned back to it and wrote slowly: ‘What are you? The book responded almost instantly: ‘I am a Living Book. I can answer any question. I know all that was, and all that is.’ I pondered on those words, all the was, the future, all that is, the present, then what about the future? I decided to try asking it. ‘What about the future?’ I wrote. There was a pause. ‘I do not know the future. The future is shaped by choice.’ it wrote. I let out a soft giggle, stunned. “This… this book is amazing. It actually talks back, it answers anything.”
