“You’re my brother, Kyle. We may not share blood, but we share everything that matters. I made Dad a promise. I told him I would take care of you. And I meant it.”
He let out a shaky breath, the tension in his shoulders unravelling slowly.
“I just don’t want you to regret this.”
“I won’t,” she said softly. “As long as it helps you, I won’t.”
There was silence for a while, the hum of machines surrounding them, the rhythm of shared grief and unspoken hope.
Eventually, Kyle nodded. “Okay. Then I’ll go. I’ll fight. I’ll do every single treatment, no matter how awful.”
